Nicholas Morley plays 'O for a heart to praise my God!' on the 1970 Pogson organ of St Luke's Anglican Church, Liverpool. The recording was made on 11 April 2023. The words for the hymn were written by the great Charles Wesley (1707-1788), who has been referred to as 'perhaps...the greatest hymn-writer of all ages.' As published in 1742, the hymn had eight verses, the first two of which read: O for a heart to praise my God, a heart from sin set free! A heart that always feels thy blood so freely spilt for me! A heart resign'd, submissive, meek, my great Redeemer's throne; where only Christ is heard to speak, where Jesus reigns alone. The tune Richmond was written by Church of England minister Thomas Haweis (1734-1820) and published in 1792.
