The Music of the Universe explores the fascinating relationship between music and science, from Pythagoras’ music of the spheres to Kepler’s Harmonices Mundi, and how these ideas echo into modern physics like string theory. It also delves into cosmology, virtual reality, and the intricate ways all of these themes connect back to music. Along the way, I explore how music and time are inseparable—how a simple melody can shape our perception of time, moving us forward, slowing us down, or transporting us into memory. I also feature one of the most mysterious musical discoveries of modern science: the real “music” of a black hole. Using NASA’s sonification of data from the Perseus Galaxy Cluster, we listen to the haunting cosmic tone produced by a supermassive black hole—an actual sound wave, millions of times lower than anything humans can hear. This video is part of my larger documentary, Synchrony, which explores the relationship between music, science, and imagination, and will be released soon. I’m Yazan Al Hajari, a composer and artist, and I invite you to join me in this journey—viewed through an artistic lens and accompanied by original music from Synchrony. Thank you for watching, and for listening with curiosity and wonder. 0:00 Introduction – Music of the Universe 00:23 Pythagoras and the Music of the Spheres 00:45 Kepler’s Cosmic Harmonies 1:50 String Theory: The Symphony of Reality 5:24 Music and Time – The Art of Time 8:19 Cosmic Rhythms and the Nature of Time 9:25 Cosmology: Cycles, Multiverse, and Entropy 11:50 Digital Universes and VR Worlds 16:30 The Music of a Black Hole (NASA Sonification) 19:18 Closing Reflections 21:23 The Return of the Theme 22:17 “Synchrony” Moscow Metropolitan Session Orchestra References, Inspiration, and Further Reading Black Hole Sound & NASA Chandra Resources NASA/Chandra Official Press Release: NASA Finds Black Hole Has Powerful Voice (2003) NASA Sonification Project – Perseus Black Hole Sonification (2022): https://chandra.harvard.edu/press/03_...
