Mike Craycraft survived testicular cancer | Scrotal Ultrasound | Inguinal Orchiectomy

In this powerful and deeply personal video, Mike Craycraft, a clinical pharmacist and founder of the Testicular Cancer Society, opens up about his battle with testicular cancer and how he turned his experience into a life-changing mission to help others. In 2005, while living in South Florida, Mike felt a suspicious lump during a routine self-check. Despite his medical background and a strong gut feeling that it might be cancer, he waited seven months before seeing a doctor. When he finally visited his primary care physician, a scrotal ultrasound was quickly ordered. The ultrasound results prompted an immediate referral to a urologist, who initiated further testing including preoperative tumor markers and a CT scan. Shortly after, Mike underwent an inguinal orchiectomy, a surgical procedure commonly used to remove a testicle and assess the stage of cancer. To his immense relief, the diagnosis came back as Stage I testicular cancer, the earliest and most treatable form of the disease. Instead of pursuing immediate chemotherapy or radiation, Mike chose active surveillance, which involves regular monitoring through CT scans and blood work. Years later, he remains healthy and says his overall well-being is nearly identical to how he felt before his diagnosis. To mark his 7-year "cancerversary," Mike celebrated by climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro—a symbolic victory over a disease that could have taken so much more. But Mike didn’t stop at survival. Recognizing a serious gap in emotional and educational support for young men facing testicular cancer, he founded the Testicular Cancer Society in 2006. The Testicular Cancer Society (TCS) now works tirelessly in three core areas: Raising awareness about testicular cancer symptoms, risk factors, and the importance of early detection. Improving access to care, particularly for underserved populations and young men who might delay treatment. Enhancing the quality of care through advocacy, education, and patient support.
