A squib load, also known as a squib round, pop and no kick, or just a squib, is a firearms malfunction in which a fired projectile does not have enough force behind it to exit the barrel, and thus becomes stuck. This type of malfunction can be extremely dangerous, as failing to notice that the projectile has become stuck in the barrel may result in another round being fired directly into the obstructed barrel, resulting in a catastrophic failure of the weapon's structural integrity. This is also know as "spontaneous disassembly" and is NOT good situation with a steel gun, let alone shootable Tupperware like I shoot (my XD45). The best case is you get a barrel that looks like a pregnant guppy. The worst case is that the force of the explosion blows the gun up in the shooters hands, and into anyone standing nearby. This includes the Safety Officer who is generally the 2nd closest in proximity to the shooter. I know I'm at risk of becoming the poster child for the inattentive reloader who fails to check a charge in his new progressive press. This malfunction was 100% my fault and safety measures will be made to ensure that it wont happen again with one of MY loads. Keep in mind that Squib loads can happen in ANY ammunition, although unlikely with reputablke brands of factory ammo. The keen eyes of an attentive Safety Officer heard the almost inaudible "puff" and the smoke from the barrel, and YELLED STOP! I was so into shooting the stage that I was unaware of the squib fire. I had already tap-racked assuming it was a FTF problem as was ready to let the next round rip (ouch!) Special Thanks to Jim Endress and Gary Stephanson of Diablo Action Pistol for catching it. It could have ended very badly on stage 2, and instead I ended up winning the match! https://www.oneononefirearms.com
