On 3 June 1992, ITN filmed scenes of daily life in Czechoslovakia, during a pivotal moment in the country's history. Just two years after Soviet occupation forces left the country and seven months after the dissolution of the USSR, Czechoslovakia was in the midst of a parliamentary election which would prove to be the country's last. In the face of growing calls for Slovak sovereignty, leaders of the Czech and Slovak assemblies would agree to a "velvet divorce", leading to the creation of the independent Slovak Republic (more commonly known as Slovakia) and the Czech Republic.
