Seated in the upper reaches of Chitral District, the awe-inspiring Lake is still off the tourist radar. The high altitude lake at 4,272 meters is considered to be the 2nd highest in Pakistan after Rush Lake at 4,694 meters and the 33rd highest in the world. Additionally, it is also one of the most biologically active lakes on earth. The lake gets accessible June till September. But the best time to visit is the third week of July till September, when nature awakens, with lambs & wild horses bouncing around the lush green fields, wildflowers blooming at their best & the earth seems to have come to the life again. When is the Best Time for Photography? The best time is the golden hours, i.e., early morning when the reflection of the snow-capped peaks in the placid lake water effortlessly casts a spell on you. Similarly, an hour before the sunset. How to Get to the Lake? Karomber Lake lies on the boundary of Broghil Valley in Chitral and Ishkoman Valley in Gilgit Baltistan. The lake can be reached through the following routes: a) Chitral - Mastuj Route b) Gilgit - Mastuj Route Both these routes end up at Mastuj, which is based on all treks up along the border area. A rough jeep ride takes one from Mastuj to Lashkargaz, which is the second main town in Broghil. From Lashkargaz, a 27-km gruelling hike will take you to strikingly beautiful Karomber Lake.
