The Themed Entertainment Association’s TEA Masters Spotlight series welcomed Mike West, TEA Master (Class of 2024), for an engaging conversation about a remarkable career spanning more than four decades in themed entertainment. Moderated by Mel McGowan, Chief Creative Officer of Storyland Studios, this live virtual event explored Mike’s creative journey through two of the industry’s most influential organizations — Universal Creative and Walt Disney Imagineering. Mike shared stories and insights from his work developing and producing some of the most beloved attractions of the modern era, including The Simpsons Ride, Transformers: The Ride-3D, Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, and Skull Island: Reign of Kong. He also discussed his leadership role in the early Blue Sky development of Universal Epic Universe, along with his earlier contributions at Disney across more than 80 attractions, shows, and immersive experiences. The conversation also highlighted Mike’s passion for mentorship and education, including his work helping launch the Creative Lab partnership between Universal Creative and the University of Central Florida to support the next generation of themed entertainment designers and producers.
