A Book Summary of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games is a young-adult dystopian novel about young people forced to compete in lethal gladiatorial games. Katniss Everdeen lives in Panem's poorest district. Each year, the twelve districts are forced to offer two children (one male and one female) to participate in the Hunger Games, a nationally televised event. When Katniss's younger sister, Prim, is selected, Katniss volunteers to fill Prim's spot. Katniss competes at the Capitol alongside a boy named Peeta from the same district. Katniss nurses Peeta back to health after he is injured. Finally, only Katniss and Peeta remain. Instead of killing each other, they agree to take poison berries in a suicide pact.
