Vancouver Police Tackle Man Armed With Machete!

At approximately 11:20pm on December 31st 2019, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) responded to reports of a man armed with a machete in the Downtown Eastside area. Police located the suspect on Powell Street near Main Street and repeadeply told him to stop and get on the ground. The suspect did not comply with police commands and continued to walk down the street. Police fired a taser at the suspect, which failed to stop him. The man was then tackled to the ground by an officer in order to subdue him and search for the weapon. Police confiscated several items on scene. It is unclear if the suspect was involved in any other violent incident leading up to the arrest. An ambulance later arrived on scene, but it is also not known if the suspect or any police officers were injured during the incident. Police searched the surrounding area and were on scene for some time to investigate.
