Under court rules, they could not respond and had to sit silently while roughly two dozen people gave emotional statements. Ryan Hampton, who became addicted after being prescribed OxyContin for a knee injury, addressed Richard Sackler: "You know what you did. I hope that every single victim's face haunts your every waking moment and your sleeping ones, too. I hope you hear our names in your dreams. … I hope you hear the sirens. I hope you hear the heart monitor as it beats along with failing pulse. ... You poisoned our lives and had the audacity to blame us for dying." "How can you possibly blame the victims for something you created, manufactured and marketed," Tiffinee Scott asked the Sacklers. Scott, who lost her 28-year-old daughter Tiarra, told the three family members listening they "have proven that they are cowards." "I think it was more important as part of my journey with healing and closure to be here so my, my son, I can feel as a mother that my son was seen or heard by the family," Kara Trainor, who is in recovery, gave birth to her son while on methadone to treat her addiction said. Dede Yoder, who lost her 21-year-old son called the Sacklers "a pariah to society." "To me, it was great to be part of this testimonial with so many people going through this. So that was to me, it was almost like being part of this court record is very important. And my son's story being part of the record."
