A good many people know Cedar Point in Ohio as a modern, ultra-exciting and roller-coaster filled wonderland, even people from other countries around the world. The place is famous for its rides and attractions, and I’m proud to say it’s virtually in my own backyard (Cleveland, Ohio). What most people DON’T know is that Cedar Point is more than a century old and has a ton of amazing and in some cases, forgotten history. Being virtually an island, people really don’t think about the fact that at one time, “The Point” was only accessible by steamship ferry. Back at the beginning of the 20th Century, the owner of Cedar Point (which at that time was simply beaches, cabins and a bathhouse, yet immensely popular as a vacation destination!) decided to build a roadway across parts of the marshy and sandy inlets of the shores of Lake Erie. Flaws in planning, some pretty rough (but commonplace) viciousness from the Lake herself and some can-do attitude make up the story of Cedar Point’s very first roadway, the CHAUSSEE. Check out this video and get the history on what the heck a chaussee even is, and how it affected the early history of one of the greatest amusement parks on the planet! Chausee scene in the video borrowed from Tom Roepke's video tour of the entire modern roadway: • cedar point chaussee Further links to check out on Cedar Point and its history: https://www.cedarpoint.com/media-center http://danielebrady.blogspot.com/2010... http://www.themeparkinsider.com/flume...
