Pipeline Flow Demonstration

Demonstration of a possible cause of higher than expected back pressure on an installed pump. The system represents a scaled-down pipeline going up over a hill, down again, and then up into a tank or holding dam. Once the air seals into a pocket it supports the downstream liquid - in this case another 20-30cm - and due to the low density of the air/vapour the pressure does not reduce again at the top of the hill. The overall impact of this can be significant with undulating terrain or liquids with dissolved gas.
