The Yorkshire Dales National Park is full of natural beauty and Aysgarth Falls is a must for anyone looking to immerse themselves in the powerful elements nature has to offer. This is a very short and easily accessible walk for all ages and offers great reward for very little effort. Got a spare five minutes? View Aysgarth Falls from above by watching the 'From The Air' film which accompanies this walk. Spread out over the course of roughly one mile, Aysgarth Falls is split into three parts, the Upper Force, Middle Force and Lower Force. The three stepped waterfalls have been a tourist attraction for over 200 years and have seen such notables as Ruskin, Wordsworth and Turner pay a visit to marvel at their splendour. In the early 1990's they also provided a dramatic setting for a scene from the Hollywood movie Robin Hood Prince of Thieves starring Kevin Costner. Surrounded by picturesque woodland and farmland, the falls are carved out by the River Ure as it descends into Wensleydale near the village of Aysgarth. The falls which are particularly spectacular after heavy rainfall with thousands of gallons of water cascading down, were formed around 300 million years ago and consist of layers of hard limestone and softer shale known in geology as the ‘Yoredale Series.’ These ‘rocky sandwich’ formations are common in the Yorkshire Dales. 11,700 years ago at the end of the last Ice Age, thick ice sheets which once covered the area melted, causing a great surge of melt water to begin to flow. While the water easily eroded the shale creating a river bed, the water could not erode the tougher limestone as easily. This created the steps in the course of the River Ure and as the water flows over them with gravity sending them down the limestone steps to the lowest point, the power of nature created these magnificent waterfalls. Filmed on 21.04.2024 Intro music: Soldier On by Jamie Paul. || About Walk The World Away || Hello everyone, my name's Jamie Paul and this is my walking channel. Since I love the outdoors and walking in nature so much I decided to start filming my walks so that I could share them with you lovely people wherever you are in the world. In an ideal world I would probably build a small house on top of one of the Lake District fells, grow my beard down to the ground, and walk forever through the beautiful Cumbrian mountains until I could walk no more. Sigh. But instead, being a more practical kind of bloke, I am on the search for smaller, more accessible walks around England that I can capture on film and share with you all. I focus my attention on the most scenic and peaceful walks I can find, either in the countryside or along the coast, and I do love to check out old villages, cities and towns too if they pass the picturesque test and have some historical interest thrown into the mix. Let me know in the comments if you know of any beautiful places to amble around that I just haven't considered yet. And yes, this a new channel so bear with me as I endeavour to bring you high definition 4K video with quality sound. I have an arts degree in photography, so I know a little bit about how things should look, and quality is the name of the game here. And as always, please like and subscribe if you love to walk too, and we can build the channel together as we walk the world away. Peace, Jamie Paul 🕊️
