Odisha weather alert | IMD issues heavy rainfall warning as low pressure forms in Bay of Bengal

Odisha is set to experience another round of heavy rainfall after a fresh low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal on Friday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. According to IMD, an upper air cyclonic circulation over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, off north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coast, led to the formation of the low-pressure area at 8:30 am. The system is expected to move west-northwestwards across south Odisha, north Andhra Pradesh, and south Chhattisgarh over the next two days. The forecast indicates isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha on September 12. An orange warning has been issued for Malkangiri and Koraput districts, while Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar are likely to witness isolated heavy rainfall. Light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are expected across other districts. The IMD has also warned of squally weather with wind speeds reaching 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, over the northwest Bay of Bengal.
