If the water evaporates from the soil faster than it is replenished, the plant’s roots cannot absorb enough moisture. This is especially common in hot, dry environments or if the plant is placed near a heat source like a radiator. The soil becomes dry and hard, and the plant’s leaves may start to wilt or droop due to a lack of moisture. If you forgot to water, thats not a big deal. Water thouroughly your plant will do fine. but it may loose some leaves. OR you can try bottom watering for even saturation. You should water your plant whenever the top 1-2 inches of the top soil dries out. in the winters let the top soil dry out about 30%. We kill our houseplants with too much care like whenever we see something going wrong with plant, our first move is- I should give it more water. That's the biggest mistake in plant parenting. See, Roots need oxygen to function properly. When soil is oversaturated with water, air pockets in the soil get filled with water, reducing the amount of oxygen available to the roots. As the roots are deprived of oxygen, they become unable to absorb water and nutrients effectively, leading to weak and droopy leaves. The plant may also become stunted in growth. The plant may look wilted or droopy, and the lower leaves often turn yellow.Roots become mushy, black, or brown, and the plant may begin to die.
