[𝗪𝗲𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆] Leveraging AI in the Construction Industry and BIM Practices

One of the current major problems worldwide is the inefficiency of the construction industry practices. On the global scale, the construction sector is responsible for more than 37% of energy and embodied / operational carbon emissions, 40% of solid wastes, with 63% overruns on projects’ construction and operations costs. As such, it is imperative to utilise innovative technological advances to address these urgent problems. This seminar will discuss opportunities of how AI Machine Learning (ML) functionalities can be used to resolve different aspects of enhancing buildings’ sustainable performance and operations throughout different lifecycle phases for different types of buildings and applications. It will start by highlighting the different types of ML algorithms, followed by discussing examples of applications in energy/carbon reduction, enhancing indoor microclimate for space users, circularity of building materials and design/construction/operations time, cost and quality processes. Furthermore, the seminar will showcase on a higher strategic level the potential for using AI for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and reducing Global Challenges, with an example case study project of an AI coupled digital Twin project, for which Dr. Saleeb won the 2024 UK/Ireland Sustainability Champion Award.
