As its modern name suggests Cirencester was created from a Roman military base, in this instance for a large cavalry unit. Soon after the pacification of the region around AD 75, the town of Corinium Dubonnorum was built for the Dobunni tribe. It became the second largest town in Britain after London, covering 240 acres. Cirencester has remained much the same size ever since. In the video I am in the attractive Abbey Grounds, where the only visible piece of town wall remains. Fortunately for me, that section of wall with its attached gateway leading to the road east to St Albans is the focus of a major scene in my book. I was delighted to find the wall, with bastion and gateway, when we arrived to film in Cirencester. It's the only piece of existing Roman building I was able to touch in all our travels around the West Country! Subscribe to follow the final episode of the Governor's Man journey as it's released. I'll have news to give you of my progress with the second book in the Quintus Valerius series, which we expect to publish in the first half of 2022. I hope to create an accompanying video series for that book, too, so you'll be able to follow the Governor's Man into his next assignment. You can buy The Governor’s Man from Amazon in ebook or paperback: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B095HZQQB...
