Welcome to my 4th anniversary video! Today I will be looking at DX Kaizoku Gattai Gokaioh [DX 海賊合体ゴーカイオー]! Gokaiger is the 35th Anniversary Super Sentai series. With that, we have gotten a themed-out series to celebrate many years of Super Sentai through the Ranger Keys [レンジャーキー] and a special mecha that can utilize the power and abilites from mechas from the past. Sure Gokaioh has some nifty abilities through the add-ons, but how is it as an individual mecha? Gokaioh consists of five individual Gokai Machines [ゴーカイマシン]. 1. Gokai Galleon 2. Gokai Jet 3. Gokai Trailer 4. Gokai Racer 5. Gokai Marine 1. ゴーカイガレオン 2. ゴーカイジェット 3. ゴーカイトレーラー 4. ゴーカイレーサー 5. ゴーカイマリン Included with this DX set is the Gokai Ken [ゴーカイケン] set of twin swords and the Gokai Ho [ゴーカイホー] cannon, which is stored within Gokai Galleon. The turning of the Ranger Keys is simulated by turning the wheel on Gokaioh's back. When this is done, all of the spring loaded compartments on the Gokai Machines will spring open to reveal artillery or the corresponding Greater Power's [大いなる力] mecha. Example: If the Magiranger Keys are turned, Magidragon [マジドラゴン] will spring open. While the additional mecha are a nice touch and really make Gokaioh shine, Gokaioh itself is a very bland Mecha. Outside of Gokai Galleon, the theme of the individual Gokai Machines is incredibly generic and uninspired. The individual Gokai Machines are devoid of a theme, which really strikes me as pure laziness or possibly arrogance seeing as we never see much of the Gokai Machines in the show. In the series we are lead to believe that the Gokai Machines are stored within each other and are ultimately all contained in Gokai Galleon. We haven't had any screentime for the other four Gokai Machines since the series premiere. Since the Machines CAN'T be stored inside Gokai Galleon, we are stuck with them. They're ugly, boring, and just utterly tragic designs. I should also note that quality is substandard with very cheap feeling plastic and plenty of marks and scrathes all over the toy coming right out of the box. I normally don't review mechas, but consider this a very poor review. Unless you are willing to shell out additional money for the expensive and numerous add-ons, walk away. This is a very bad starting point. It remains to be seen whether or not Gokaiger will receive the Power Rangers adaptation. Maybe oneday Gokaioh will get the Megazord treatment from Bandai America.
