Train Drivers View on the intercity service from Lelystad via Amsterdam Zuid, Schiphol Airport and Leiden to Rotterdam Centraal. Today we take a ride with the brand new VIRMm1 combined with a regular VIRM, which makes a total of 10 carriages to go with! It’s 4.54pm, the train manager closes the doors and we’re good to go! After passing the first signal with speed limit we speed up the train to 80 and 140km/h. Now you can enjoy the nice views from the Oostvaardersplassen on the right of the train. A few kilometers before Almere Buiten we shut down the engines of the train and let the weight of the train do the rest of the work. This is how we work as long as we’re on time. Speed up to the maximum speed after a speed change and then let the train's weight do the rest. As soon as we’re out of Almere and we’ve crossed the A1 high way we test the horns of the train successfully. And the rest of the ride is quite nice without any particular problems. After departure from Duivendrecht we need to keep the speed down to 80km/h because of a temporary speed limit. This is also the case in the tunnel of Delft. But a huge difference between those two is that after Duivendrecht the ATB signal jumps to 80km/h and at Delft the ATB signal stays on 140km/h. It speaks for itself the train driver must always follow up the lowest speed limit: 80km/h in these cases. Between Leiden and Den Haag Laan van NOI we hit one of the two ducks that attempt to fly to the other side of the tracks while we’re on full speed. Not a good combination. Bye bye ducky. On our arrival in Delft you can hear the train manager having a conversation with our NS safety departure coming with us for a short ride. We leave one minute late, but because we keep the speed up to the max we arrive right on time at Schiedam Centrum. There is another short unplanned layover and we depart too late from Schiedam as well. So, maximum speed until Rotterdam Central Station, and we’re back on schedule on our arrival at the final stop for this video. I hope you’ll enjoy this new 4K vid! Cheers!
