Kyiv Post staff discuss controversial Ukrainian blogger Bilozerska

Kyiv Post chief editor Jakub Parusinski and staff writer Svitlana Tuchynska discuss controversial right-wing Ukrainian blogger Olena Bilozerska, a recent recipient of the Bobs best Ukrainian blog award who soon after saw her prize revoked. The Bobs, an international social media competition organized by Germany's Deutsche Welle, had recently awarded her with the prize following an internet vote that chose Bilozerska as the most popular Ukrainian blog author. Prominent journalist and Bobs jury member Mustafa Nayem, who had nominated Bilozerska, wrote about the decision on Facebook. "This was a joint decision -- mine and Deutsche Welle's. The main argument: I would not want, that in the first year that there is a Ukrainian (language) category, that The Bobs be marked by such a scandal. I am partly responsible for this situation. The joint official position will be posted on the website of Deutsche Welle in coming hours," Nayem wrote, adding that Bilozerska won with 46 percent of the popular vote. He had earlier defended Bilozerska, saying that even if he did not share her opinions, her blog "(serves) as a grounds for the open discussion for (people with) right wing and xenophobic views."
