Download the remastered audio in FLAC: https://drive.google.com/drive/folder... Performed live on September 10th, 1999, at Tokyo International Forum in Tokyo, Japan. Audio & video remastered by Hollie Taylor. Some artists have put on a spectacular performance, while others have put on an infamous one; Ben Folds Five managed to do both in one show. In the middle of the Japan leg of their tour promoting their newly released album, The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner, things were getting rough. Having blown a big chunk of their budget on music videos for Army and especially Don't Change Your Plans, their biggest hope was playing shows to venues that sold out less than before. Ben got married and had kids around this time and he poured his heart out into a gorgeous, orchestral and introspective record that only performed modestly. These guys were tired, overworked, stressed, and freaking out. Not only did they put on a show, they put on a tantrum. If you've watched this performance before (if you're a Ben Folds fan it's very likely you have) you know how it goes. They play one of the most damn brilliant shows of their career, beautifully shot and edited. They couldn't afford to put out a video for the single Magic, so this show was their best shot at getting anything close to one. Not only that, but this was probably the show with the most stakes out of any Ben Folds Five concert up to that point. It's taped absolutely brilliantly as I mentioned earlier, which was a first for anything Ben Folds at that point. Then it all falls apart in the middle of Song for the Dumped (even if I still think it's brilliant). Outside of that beautiful mess, some highlights are the kickass performances of Army, Your Redneck Past, Fair, Regrets, One Angry Dwarf, Jackson Cannery, and Uncle Walter. The audio remaster for this was trivial. It's a lossy source but otherwise I just wanted to get it to be on par with official live releases in terms of compression, stereo space, reverb, all that stuff. It's pretty subtle and I think I did a good job. The visuals were the main event here and required me to do 2 different upscales, mix in another source near the end, redo the watermark, and some subtle but effective color grading. I also did some chroma trickery to adjust the slight glow present on the film, which is a bit too complex to get into for this description. This is a rare instance in which I think YouTube compression actually helps quite a bit in blending this all together. I wanted to get a bit experimental with cleaning up the visuals and step outside of my comfort zone because this show looked noticeably more pixelated than a professional release probably would. A lot of what I did ended up being a bit subtle so as to not overdo it and I spent about a week tweaking all of this and running lots of programs, so I hope you all are somewhat satisfied with the result. If you aren't, check out my friend urbster1's more raw upload here: • Ben Folds Five - Freaking Out (1999) . He also provided the DVD source which I based everything off of. Also thanks to my friend Jon who got this project off the ground before I took the reigns. ☆Timestamps☆ 00:00 Don't Change Your Plans 05:22 Battle of Who Could Care Less 08:46 Army 12:30 Missing the War 16:52 Magic 21:18 Steven's Last Night in Town 26:27 Sledge Slide 28:02 Your Redneck Past 32:16 Mess 36:26 Hospital Song 38:54 Philosophy 43:57 Fair 50:12 Narcolepsy 55:41 Regrets 1:00:25 One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces 1:04:46 Underground 1:08:36 Jackson Cannery 1:12:39 Uncle Walter 1:16:35 Song for the Dumped 1:24:50 Freaking Out Join the Discord!: / discord Follow us on Bluesky!: https://bsky.app/profile/silverstyt.b...
