The Place Fri 27 - Sat 28 Jan Conceived and choreographed by Nicole Mossoux Directed by Nicole Mossoux in collaboration with Patrick Bonté A museum comes to life in the depths of night. Rooms fill with shadows, demons and terrors from the pictures hanging on its walls. The atmosphere is tense. Inspired by the famous Pinturas Negras of Spanish artist Francisco Goya (1746-1828), Patrick Bonté and Nicole Mossoux borrow from his alarming visions to create this powerful, award-winning, work for eleven dancers and their life-size puppet doubles. Ancient melodies and lost songs from Spain provide the haunting soundscape. Based in Brussels, the Mossoux-Bonté company has been an important feature of the Mime Festival since first appearing at the ICA in 1992. ‘Fantastical theatre of images, richly mixing sensuality, eroticism and stunning theatrical imagination’ Le Soir ‘Features recurring themes of the art of the Mossoux-Bonté: mannequins, masks and doppelgangers. Levitation, duplication, dismemberment and illusions build and populate this organic and orgiastic succession of tableaux in a nightmarish and fascinating ritual’ La Libre ‘A masterly homage’ RTBF.be Fri 27 – Sat 28 Jan 7.30pm After-show discussion: Fri 27 Jan (BSL interpreted) Age guidance: 15+ 70 mins / no interval This visit to London is presented with the assistance of Wallonie-Bruxelles International Concept and choreography Nicole Mossoux Direction Nicole Mossoux in collaboration with Patrick Bonté Performance and artistic collaboration Juan Benítez, Dounia Depoorter, Thomas Dupal, Sébastien Chollet, Frauke Mariën, Fernando Martin, Isabelle Lamouline, Shantala Pèpe, Candy Saulnier, Fatou Traore, Martha Andrioli as the young girl Puppetry, costumes and scenography Natacha Belova Vocal design Jean Fürst Sound design Thomas Turine Light Patrick Bonté Make-up and wigs Rebecca Flores-Martinez Sound technician Fred Miclet Light technician Jean-Jacques Deneumoustier Stage management Céline Pagniez Production Mossoux-Bonté Company, in coproduction with Charleroi Danse – Centre chorégraphique de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles – Belgique, La Briqueterie - CDCN du Val-de-Marne, Le Théâtre de Rungis, La Coop asbl, Shelterprod.
