Some of our customers have experienced first hand the importance of servicing their hot water systems. At todays property, we’re doing a minor service of a Rheem Stellar 330 which was installed around a year ago by another plumbing company. Since it’s getting close to our winter, we were given a whistle to come and check to make sure there wouldn’t be any problems during our harsh winter. Check out the video to learn some of what we do when performing a minor hot water service: [1:17] REMNANTS OF AN OLD HOT WATER SYSTEM – This dome plate sits at the top of a hot water system. This dome stays on the property as reminder of the importance of maintaining the hot water system as the old hot water heater exploded. [4:35] HOT RELIEVE VALVE – operates ok but water does not enter the soak pit unless it’s at full pressure and if the water just drips as it should, water simply spills all over the floor. [5:07] Cold relief valve – Looks new so it should operate correctly which it does. [5:25] ISOLATION VALVE – Turns on and off correctly. Appears that valves were replaced last year which is a good thing. [5:41] PLUMBDOG TIP – Pulling release valves every 3-6 months is recommended. Because they are mechanical valves, it is important to check that they continue to function properly. [6:05] CHECKING THE GAS PARTS– Now we check over the gas side of things. We check the valves, settings and burner. Everyone has their own preferred settings whether it’s to be more environmentally friendly or to conserve and save on bills.New gas valve, check settings, check burner, [7:36] BURNER ASSEMBLY – This is where it all happens. This is like the brain of the hot water system that controls the burner, pilot light and lets us set how we want the hot water system to function. Richard explains in simple how the hot water system works from here. THERMOCOUPLE – The thermocouple is a sensor that measures the temperature of the water in the hot water system. These have shelf lives too and it’s recommended to replace anywhere from 2-4 years. These are just some of the things that we do and your plumber should do when performing a minor service and check of your hot water system. Thanks for watching! We hope you found this video helpful.
