Every morning starts with coffee — a quick espresso, standing at the bar, a cheerful "Ciao!" from the barista, and just like that, the day begins right. People here know how to enjoy life: they’re never in a rush, they treasure their lunch break, and they can talk about nothing — but in such a way that you never want the conversation to end. Now I’m arriving at the Old Port — Porto Antico. This is the heart of Genoa. Yachts, fishing boats, museums, cafés with a view of the water... The sea is always nearby. Even if you can’t see it, you feel it — salt in the air, wind in your hair, seagulls overhead. Living in Genoa means living with the sea. It changes every day. Sometimes it’s calm and turquoise, sometimes stormy and dramatic. But it always reminds you that you’re part of something bigger. Genoa is the city of Columbus, of sailors, merchants, and bankers. A city of art and trade. Even the houses breathe history — Palazzo Bianco, Rosso, Tursi... You can stroll down Via Garibaldi for hours, peeking into courtyards, admiring the frescoes and sculptures. But despite all its history, Genoa doesn’t live in the past. It’s full of students, musicians, creatives. The streets are alive: evening aperitivo on a piazza, summer festivals, concerts performed on church steps… And of course — the food. Genoese cuisine is a religion of its own. Real pesto comes from here, and it’s nothing like the store-bought version. Try trofie al pesto — and you’ll understand what happiness tastes like.And then there’s focaccia — warm in the morning, with olive oil, crispy on the outside, soft inside...
