In this video on the Mental Health Act 1983 I cover the basics of Section 2 and Section 3. Other terms introduced are Mental Health Act Assessment, Approved Mental Health Professional, , Nearest Relative, Mental Health Review Tribunals, Managers' Hearings, Independent Mental Health Advocate, Second Opinion Appointed Doctor (SOAD), Section 17 Leave, Responsible Clinician. If you are worried about a person's mental health, the first thing to do is ask the person you are concerned about whether they would be willing to see their GP. If the person is willing to accept help from a GP, that is great. (Or if more urgent, if they w ould be happy to go with you to the local Accident and Emergency). The GP would refer the person to mental health services if necessary and can get the person seen urgently. If you feel you or anybody in the household or the person you are worried about is in immediate danger, you can call the police.
