Newly Admitted Checklist Take a look at the checklist of next steps once you have received your admission offer: http://grad.ubc.ca/current-students/n.... If you are an international applicant, we recommend that you pay particular attention to on-campus residence housing information and study permit processing sooner rather than later. Online Community All newly admitted graduate students are invited to join our online community at http://community.grad.ubc.ca where you can introduce yourselves to other admitted students as well as current students. The discussion boards provide quick and convenient access to details on common questions and answers from peers and UBC advisors. The online community consists of a variety of forums on topics including Accommodation, Settling in/New to Canada/New to Vancouver, Making Friends, International Students, and more. Pre-Arrival Webinars These online sessions provide valuable information on topics including funding and tuition info, finding a place to live, life in Vancouver, and specific sessions for international students on immigration and health insurance requirements. As well, we will soon schedule additional sessions with our graduate student ambassadors to provide online interactive chat sessions about life as a graduate student at UBC. To see a schedule or sessions or to register visit http://orientation.grad.ubc.ca/events. Orientation Each year, new students are invited to our Welcome Orientation; this year it will take place on August 30 and will provide information on campus resources, as well as strategies for thriving in graduate school, from both the faculty and graduate student perspective. International Student Development will also offer an additional orientation for international students only, and the Graduate Student Society will host a variety of events to help you meet other new students and explore UBC and Vancouver. You may wish to plan your arrival to Vancouver so that you can attend these events. Learn more at http://orientation.grad.ubc.ca On behalf of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at UBC, we wish you all the best as you navigate through all the decision-making and preparation for graduate school. We hope these resources contribute to an easy transition to UBC.
