Steps on how to put your HTC One into Safe mode so you can diagnose your phone issues. Best way to do it. Press and hold the power key. Once you see your options Press and HOLD on the Power off option and you can then select "RESTART" where it states reboot to safe mode. The alternate step is below but it only worked for me half the time. Press and hold power key. When you get the HTC logo then press and hold the volume down key until the phone boots up all the way and you will see Safe mode on the bottom left corner. Safe mode is a method that allows the device to run without non-essential applications. This is beneficial for troubleshooting 3rd party applications.It basically puts your phone in a diagnostic state (returned to default settings) so you can test if a third-party app is causing your device to freeze/reset/run slow. It is just like putting a computer in safe mode. Basically all apps are turned off.
