Startupfest 2017 Never EXIT : on how to stay small CW&T began 8 years ago with a modest goal: Figure out how to feed ourselves (sandwiches) while doing what we love (making stuff.) Aside from needing to make 2 extra sandwiches with no help (that's code for having kids), our goal today hasn't changed. We were super lucky to have started out right around the time that launching products on Kickstarter was becoming a thing. It let us put weird things into the world without the usual overhead. In 2011, we launched Pen Type-A, with a goal of getting 50 supporters and raising $2,500. Instead, we ended up with 4,048 supporters and over $250K in funding. Since then, we've made lots of other stuff—and seen firsthand how the landscape of making with alternate forms of funding. We're lucky to still be doing what we do! Come hear how this 2-person art + design practice came to—and continues to—be. Startupfest is Canada's original startup event, bringing over 7000 founders, investors, accelerators, and community leaders from across the globe to Montreal, Canada every July.
