This lovely 1987 gown was designed by Lecoanet Hemant, a duo from France and India, who met while studying fashion in Paris. They now reside and work in India, still producing designs together. This silk dress is beautifully made and needs an alteration which I will carefully explain and show. Alteration: Adding the black stretch velvet panels made the torso area fit perfectly. The yellow wrap belt was not big enough to meet in the back so I shaped it while on the body, pinned it carefully and sewed it by hand. It had about a three inch gap at the top of the band with the black and while silk showing underneath. The bottom of the band spread and had a slant shape to it, with the gap being about five inches. It looked okay and was very acceptable. We both thought that it looked like it was incorporated into the design. Final analysis: It worked! She looked FABULOUS at the gala (she sent me photos) and I don't think anyone would have ever realized the changes made to the original dress.
