In 565 BCE Greeks from Phocaea in Asia Minor built their first colony on the shores of Corsica. This event introduced Corsica into Western recorded history. In this presentation we’ll explore some of the highlights from Corsica’s long history—from the mysterious prehistoric Torreans to the rise of the Corsican Republic in the 18th century. Join us for this interesting survey to learn more about one of the Mediterranean’s most fascinating islands. Dr Christopher A. Tuttle is an archaeologist studying the Hellenistic and Roman periods in the Eastern Mediterranean. Former Associate Director at ACOR in Jordan and former Executive Director of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers. He holds a BA in Classical and Medieval Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and a PhD from the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World at Brown University.
