Claude Diallo with Blizz Rhythmia - Bona

When I composed Bona I stayed in Sao Paulo in Brazil in the summer of 2005. During that time period I was a huge fan of Cameroon bass player Richard Bona and Urs Streckeisen, the bass player of Blizz Rhythmia introduced me to the music of Richard. I later met Richard in Boston, while I was studying at Berklee College of Music and later during my career, often went to his concerts and also hung out in New York before or after the gigs. My composition is a tribute to him, an homage to the african tradition of odd meter playing in music, a way to show my admiration for the cameroonian bass tradition. I would have never thought that this tune would become one of my trademark compositions, which I have recorded on many albums in many different ways. So, while I was at Berklee College of Music in Boston I started to create a deep interest in odd meters and I often tried to find out ways to compose music that sounded natural with odd meters.
