Ornaments were crisply executed. The Fugue showed awareness of the texture, with each of the entries effectively brought out, and nimble fingerwork ensured independence in the part-writing. A good degree of expressive shaping enhanced communication. A promising and stylish account with much to commend, with only minor loss of precision. Marks: 7/7/7 = 21 (22) Piece 2: Sciarra: Romance from Piano Exam Pieces Plus Exercises from 2021: Grade 8 (both editions) Accurate in notes and rhythms and maintaining a pleasing sense of flow and direction. Tone and balance were carefully crafted and the sustaining pedal was judiciously used to retain clarity in the texture. Pacing was musically managed and phrasing was carefully shaped to create a strong sense of communication. The interpretation showed musical understanding. A well-controlled left-hand accompaniment supported a clearly projected melody, with an even tone enhanced by well-defined dynamics and rhythmic emphasis. This was a musical account that captured the ragtime style with confidence and was underpinned by secure technique.
