Dr. Ebraheim’s educational animated video describes the anatomy of the Extensor Digiti Minimi muscle in the forearm. Origin: the EDM arises from the lateral epicondyle of the humerus. Insertion: the EDM inserts into the extensor expansion of the 5th digit. Function: the EDM extends the 5th digit at the metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal joints. It is more common as the sole extensor of the 5th digit. Innervation: posterior interosseous nerve. The tendon of the EDM is located at the fifth dorsal extensor compartment of the wrist.
