Check my ebook for IAL chemistry here 📚 https://www.chem-bio.info/ebooks-library You can also get the physical book from Amazon 📕 https://www.amazon.com/Edexcel-IAL-AS... 🎥 *This video is for students who are taking AS Chemistry* 📚 Questions about the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution appear in almost every unit 2 exam. ❓ *There are two formats of the questions:* ✏️ The first format is when they ask you to draw the curve. 🔹 You must start from the origin. 🔺 Raise the curve up. 🔻 Then fall down without touching the x-axis. 📊 *Understanding the curve:* 🔍 Look at the axes: 📈 On the y-axis: Amount of energy that particles have. 📊 On the x-axis: Number of particles. 🧐 *Key points about the curve:* 🎯 Start from the origin because there are no particles with zero energy. 📈 The peak of the curve represents the most probable energy of the particles. 📏 The average amount of energy is shown halfway through the x-axis. ⚡ The presence of activation energy (EA) represents the minimum energy necessary for the reaction to occur. 🔍 Small area beyond EA represents particles with enough energy to collide successfully and yield products. 🌡️ *Effect of temperature on the curve:* 🔥 Particles have more kinetic energy when you increase their temperature. 📈 The Maxwell curve shifts to the right and becomes lower with increased temperature. 🔄 The area under each curve does not change, indicating the same number of particles. 📈 More particles have energy greater than activation energy at higher temperatures. ✅ *Conclusion:* ⚛️ Only particles with energy greater than EA will react successfully. 🌡️ Increasing temperature gives particles more kinetic energy, necessary for successful collisions.
