Asha sings 'I did what I came to do' from "Music & Morality." This is a song about feeling guided by a loving power all through life. We are all loved, and we all have our unique purpose. Over the years I've felt that one of my tasks has been to try to bring a bit of love to earth through music. At one point I really wanted to be a footballer; and to score goals! Later, I really wanted to be a rock-star! My mother was a performer, she sang and played the piano, and was on the radio, so it was a path I admired. I don't create lyrics! They arent biographical in any literal sense. Sometimes I'm woken up at night with a song half-written in my sleep, in a style I could never conjure up with my own will. And it's the same with shooting and editing a film, like this one. There's no script, I just try to find a good location, remember the words, and hope for the best. Only when I come to edit it, do I see that there is actually a script, a story, the form emerges from the process, which is great fun. This song is a song of thanksgiving for this life task. It's been such a lot of fun, I've been very absorbed in it, probably at the expense of other things, and I've experienced joys and losses, been very very blessed, and theres been mystery..and I enjoy any whiff of mystery! This song plays on the notion of mystery, to, as the little ego perceives it. I love detective novels and a splash of mystery makes the medicine go down! And then there is the 'crack' that first let the light in, as Leonard Cohen famously sang "There's a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in." I've had experiences and blessings that have motivated me along the way. As a child I had a vision of Jesus, and I gave my heart to him. i loved Sufism and it brought so much to my life. These interests have defined this task, a commitment to walking with Christ, and Sufism. I don't always go to church or always follow teachings. My church is the heart. And the thing that's helped the most many times is to not just to love people, but to also 'love my fate.'
