DIY organic garden insect repellent- Dawn soap-cheap,safe

I have been growing vegetables on my balcony now for 2 years in containers and DIY grow bags, and this season has been terrible for bugs, insects and pests. I have been reluctant to use most commercial poisons, even organic ones as I am eating the leaves of most of the plants I am growing. I finally almost gave up before trying Dawn liquid soap. It works pretty good. It is a contact repellant and does not keep bugs from returning, but has almost eliminated my scale problem. It is a pretty safe item to use and has not harmed the plants. It would be better if I had access to a hose to spray off the soapy water later . It is safe to mix up in the kitchen and washes off easily. I wish I had used it sooner. I find it is best to give the plants to applications a few minutes apart as the first application will really irritate most insects and get them to stop hunkering down and get up and walk around or even die, and the second spray a few minutes later gets them when they are more exposed.
