This week’s message continues our look at “taking out the trash” in our lives—removing attitudes and sins that damage our relationship with God and with others. In 1 Peter 2, we see what happens after that cleanup: God begins building something new. Peter describes Jesus as the Living Stone and the Cornerstone that everything else must be built upon. As believers, we are like living stones being built together into a spiritual house with purpose and identity in Christ. The sermon highlights three powerful truths from the passage: we are built on Christ as our foundation, many still reject Him and stumble over the truth, and those who believe are called by God’s mercy into a new identity. Through Jesus’ sacrifice, we are brought out of darkness into His marvellous light and given a purpose—to proclaim His goodness and live lives that honour Him. 0:00 - Start 07:10 - Praise 12:22 - Ever Be 18:58 - God You're So Good 23:42 - Holy Holy Holy 27:45 - Message 57:53 - Cornerstone Scripture References: 1 Peter 2 Vs 1-10 2 Corinthians 3 Vs 18 Romans 8 Vs 29 Ephesians 2 Vs 1-2 John 8 Vs 31-32 Isaiah 53 Vs 3 Matthew 27 Vs 39-44 Hebrews 12 Vs 2-3 1 Corinthians 11 Vs 23-25 Key Points: Taking out the “trash” (malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander) prepares our hearts to live as God intends. Jesus is the Living Stone and the Cornerstone—the foundation every believer must build their life upon. Believers are being built together as “living stones” into a spiritual house and holy priesthood. Spiritual sacrifices today include worship, generosity, obedience, sharing the gospel, prayer, and living for God’s glory. Some reject Christ and stumble over Him when they try to build their lives on anything else. Through God’s mercy, believers receive a new identity: chosen people, a royal priesthood, and God’s possession. Discussion Questions: What does it practically look like to “take out the trash” in our lives today? What are some ways people try to build their identity or foundation on things other than Christ? Which of the spiritual sacrifices mentioned in the sermon challenges you the most right now? How does remembering God’s mercy change the way we live and worship Him?
