The 2023 Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers' Contest (YDC), the concluding event of CENTRESTAGE, Asia's premier fashion event organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), will take place on September 9. Ten talented local designers will have the opportunity to present their innovative designs in a captivating fashion show, accompanied by special guests including singer Kay Tse, adding to the festive ambiance. After the runway showcase, a panel of industry experts will carefully select the winners from the pool of ten contestants, who will be honored with the prestigious 4 YDC awards. The winners at YDC 2023 were as follows: Champion & Best Visual Presentation Award: Jason Ying | Holometabolism | Excellence Award : Johnson Chong | Last Chance Hiking With My Mum | My Favourite Collection Award: Tiger Chung | Whispers From The Nomad - Folk Horror Tale | About YDC The Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest (YDC), which is open to Hong Kong residents with training or experience in fashion design, is considered by many a rite of passage for local designers who want to challenge themselves and gain exposure on the global stage. Over the years, the role of YDC has evolved alongside Hong Kong’s garment and fashion industries. For years, the contest proved successful at discovering talent, such as Barney Cheng and Cecilia Yau, to meet the needs of established brands. Today, however, it has become a launching pad for up-and-coming designers with the ambition to launch their own labels. Recent YDC designers that have succeeded in building a brand borne out of their own vision and making a name for themselves in Hong Kong and beyond include 112 mountainyam (Mountain Yam), MODEMENT (Aries Sin) and DEMO. (Derek Chan). One of the perks of joining YDC is the opportunity to meet and receive valuable advice from world-famous designers, who are invited to serve on the judging panel each year.
