Let’s start with the truth: if you’re traveling to Russia right now, you can’t use your American cards anywhere. No Visa. No Mastercard. No Apple Pay. You also can’t get money through Western Union or MoneyGram, so don’t even try. You need cash in hand or pre-book everything before you land. That’s exactly what I did for City 2 of the Etihad Extraordinary Challenge — Sochi, Russia 🇷🇺 I stayed right in Sochi City Center at a cozy Aparthotel I found on Almosafer, and yes, I was able to book it online using my American card before the trip. Once I got there, though, everything else was cash only, even restaurants and taxis. Sochi completely shocked me in the best way. It’s clean, beautiful, and full of life. You’ve got beaches, mountains, and luxury all in one place. 📍 Must-visit spots: 🏔 Rosa Khutor — where the Winter Olympics were held. I went all the way up to Rosa Peak and ate lunch at the highest restaurant in Sochi. The views are unreal — you can see the sea and the mountains at the same time. 🌉 SkyPark — one of the longest suspension bridges in the world and home to the Mega Troll, which I obviously had to try. The rush and the views were insane. Most things in Sochi are actually pretty affordable, but anything characteristic or “Instagram famous” is gonna run at a tourist price. You’ll find different pricing online for Rosa Khutor and SkyPark depending on the package or activity, so definitely compare before you go.
