This is a video review of 群青の空を越えて (Gunjou no Sora o Koete), a visual novel developed by light, released in 2005. It's a story filled with military themes and political intrigue, perhaps surprising considering the chuuni reputation of its developer. The game tells the story of Yashiro, whose father's groundbreaking proposal for a unified Asian economic zone fractured Japan into independent nations and eventually led to a civil war between the two major factions. With tensions slowly building up to its inevitable climax, Yashiro strives his best to climb up the ranks within the military aviary branch and deal with his father's unfinished business once and for all. This is a very grounded (well, technically airborne) story that shines for its complex character portrayal and excellent world-building.
