Defense lawyers make U-turn, accept cause of death as bomb blasts

A host of defence lawyers in the on-going trial of the 2010 Bomb case has made a u-turn and accepted the cause of death of the 76 people who were watching a World Cup match final at Kyaddondo Rugby Club and Ethiopian Village Restaurant was due to bomb blasts. At the beginning of this trial in March, the defense team led by Caleb Alaka had contested some of the postmortem reports which indicated the cause of death as being bomb blasts hence prompting the prosecution to summon over six pathologists to testify on their autopsy reports. However this afternoon, had the first pathologist Dr. Sylvester Onzivua from Mulago hospital who was also prosecution witness number three took the witness stand, defence lawyers shot up and to only inform court that they had made up their minds to agree that the cause of death of the 76 people was indeed due to bomb blasts. They later informed court that they no longer need the testimonies of the pathologists. Trial judge Alphonse Owiny-Dollo, accordingly accepted the changes. He then adjourned the hearing of this case to Tuesday next week when the prosecution led by Susan Okalany is expected to bring a new witness. The trial involves 13 suspects who are accused of being behind the twin bombing of football fans who were watching the 2010 World cup final between Netherlands and Spain at Kyaddondo Rugby Club and Ethiopian Village Restaurant in Kabalagala, Kampala killing over 76 people and leaving many injured. The suspects face charges ranging from; terrorism, murder, attempted murder and being accessories to terrorism.
