Car Service Engine Soon Light Is On (Causes And What To Do). In this video I will talk about what to do when car service engine soon light is on. First, the Service Engine Soon light comes on to signal a minor issue with the engine component or remind you of scheduled maintenance. Here is what to do: Take the vehicle for a routine maintenance service. Some car models have been built with sensors that remind the driver of routine maintenance. In cars where the warning light is integrated with routine maintenance, the light will come on as a reminder. Some scheduled maintenance may include changing the engine oil, oil filter, or transmission fluid. Consider getting your car correctly diagnosed and repaired by a professional mechanic to deal with this issue. Check and refill the car fluid levels. The car has numerous essential fluids that make it operational. These fluids include brake fluid, engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant, and power steering fluid. When one or more of these fluids drops to considerably low levels, the service engine light might be illuminated. Leakages may cause low fluid levels; therefore, you should first look for possible leakages and if you find any have them repaired by a mechanic. In case there are no leakages, refill them to the recommended levels. Remember to consult your manual to determine your vehicle fluid specification, especially engine oil. Tighten or replace loose gas cap Another common cause of the light is a loose gas cap. When the gas cap is not airtight, it may leak air into the gas tank and eventually into the engine cylinder, leading to illumination of the check engine light. To fix this issue, tighten the loose gas cap or replace it with a new, airtight gas cap if it’s damaged.
