The Most Notorious Market in Lagos | Oshodi, Nigeria

In this video, we return to Oshodi, one of Lagos' most iconic and infamous areas, to share the documentary we began filming back in 2021. ‘This Your Lagos’ follows the lives of three Lagosians: Iyaliyah, a streetwise local from Oshodi; Kemi, a driven professional navigating the city's challenges; and Sujimoto, a luxury property developer from the high-end enclave of Banana Island. We spent a day with each of them, capturing three very different slices of life in Africa’s largest city. In this video, we first visit Computer Village – Africa's largest electronics market – to purchase a TV for the screening. The real magic, though, happens when we return to Oshodi to reunite with Iyaliyah and show her the documentary that tells her story. The experience of sharing our work with her and seeing the reactions from the crowd was truly special. Oshodi is not easy… it’s a place full of energy, complexity and resilience, and I’m very proud of how the crew captured that essence. Thank you to Mr Lati, Jude, Tolu, Mr Austin, Gaby and Lekan.
