Youth Month and Youth Day highlight the urgent need to address South Africa's critical youth unemployment rate. Youth aged 15-34 years make up around 63-point-3 percent of the population and continue to face significant barriers to workforce inclusion. Prolonged unemployment reduces the likelihood of entering the workforce, which can lead to detrimental long-term consequences including the perpetuation of intergenerational poverty, diminished individual prospects, and feelings of low self-esteem.
