Severe weather warnings remain in place for the New South Wales’ mid-north coast as residents prepare for another day of heavy rain, damaging winds and high tides. More than 15,000 people living in the region have been displaced and taken to evacuation centres following days of torrential rain. Several locations including Kempsey and Coffs Harbour received more than 50 millimetres of rain on Monday but a bit less than what was forecast, raising hopes the worst of the deluge may have passed. Less than 50 millimetres was forecasted for today. Most river systems in the Mid-North Coast saw their second peaks come and go, however, major flood warnings were left in place. The rain event for the Mid-North Coast was forecasted to conclude today around 5pm or 6pm, leaving the community to begin the clean up, which was expected to take months.
