In this Syria travel vlog, we cross the border from Jordan into Syria and travel through Damascus, Homs, Aleppo, Hama, and Palmyra, witnessing the country's resilience and rich history. Our journey begins at the border, where entry is now easier after the recent removal of the $350 visa fee for Americans. Damascus greets us with a mix of destruction and daily life—war-damaged buildings, vintage cars, and welcoming locals. From there, we head to Homs, a city deeply scarred by the revolution, yet home to historic sites like the Church of the Belt of the Holy Mary and the Khalid ibn al-Walid Mosque. One of the highlights is Krak des Chevaliers, a massive Crusader castle still standing strong after centuries of battles. In Aleppo, we explore the ancient souq, now slowly recovering from war and earthquake damage, and visit the legendary Aleppo Soap Factory, where olive oil soap is still made using centuries-old techniques. The Aleppo Citadel, a fortress that has stood since the Bronze Age, gives us a panoramic view of the city, revealing both destruction and signs of adaptation—like homes with newly installed solar panels to counter frequent power cuts. Hama’s famous Roman water wheels remind us of Syria’s long history of engineering and innovation, while Palmyra stands as a haunting symbol of what has been lost. Once a major Silk Road city, its ruins have suffered greatly from ISIS destruction. Along the way, we see traces of Syria’s recent past—abandoned vehicles, bullet shells, and signs of both devastation and survival. Back in Damascus, we explore its historic alleys, stopping at the Church of Saint Ananias, the Umayyad Mosque, and Saladin’s Mausoleum. The city’s mix of ancient heritage and modern uncertainty is a reminder of Syria’s complex reality. As our journey ends, reports of fresh violence elsewhere in the country are a stark reminder that Syria’s path forward is still uncertain. Yet, through its people and its history, the country continues to push forward. Subscribe for travel inspiration videos and travel guides!
