Study examines a potential 'small' nuclear future for Indiana

A study by Purdue University researchers points to new nuclear technology as a potential solution to the state's growing energy needs. The report found that small modular reactors – also known as SMRs – could "help Indiana shift to 24/7 carbon-free electricity with economic benefits." While Indiana invests in a diverse energy supply including natural gas, coal and wind, SMRs are smaller than existing nuclear power plants, fabricated in a manufacturing facility, and could be faster and less expensive to build.
