We made this instructional video on the use of Hx-tal glue to repair stained glass for use by Beyer Studio employees. The instructor is former employee, Meredith Pesti Macbeth, an historic objects conservator, now living and working in Scotland. We decided to share this video with visitors to our website to demonstrate how painstaking the restoration of historic windows can be. Hx-tal glue is used by museums internationally to repair glass but the process of its use requires time and patience. But this process is a case where the end does justify the means. In situations where its use is applicable, properly applied to the glass and given the proper curing time, Hx-tal creates a permanent, extremely strong bond between the two edges of the broken piece of glass, allowing the restorer to keep the precious original glass, albeit with the barely noticeable repair line, in lieu of replacement of the original piece. In stained glass restoration, the preservation of the original glass is optimum.
