https://www.covertecproducts.com/prod... What is the best concrete sealer for gas and oil resistance on an exterior concrete surface? Well, exterior concrete is typically more porous, and more absorbent than interior concrete. It tends to be more of a broom finish or exposed aggregate, and it's pretty porous. I would recommend penetrating sealers rather than topical sealers in that environment. The sealer needs to get into the concrete. And it works by restricting the gas and the oil from getting into the concrete, rather than forming a barrier on the top. A topical sealer can lift and peel over time. So, if it's exposed to a lot of: Weathering, Wet and dry cycles, Freeze-thaw, And all the chemicals that may be exposed to them ... eventually that will weaken the sealer, and it's going to lift and peel. If it's in the concrete, there's less chance of that happening, and you're going to get longer lasting durability. You need to make sure that you're using a penetrating sealer though that is oil resistant, not just water resistant. There are Silane and Siloxane-type sealers that have excellent water repellency. Something like like our CoverSeal Pen55® Silane Siloxane blend. But that doesn't have high oil resistance. It might resist the chemicals for a little while, but for long term resistance, you need something that's has a fluorochemical in it, or fluoro-polymer. So, our CoverSeal Pen55® is a Fluorochemical penetrating sealer. Not only is it water resistant, it's also highly gas and oil resistant. The fluorochemicals soak into the concrete, lines the pores and capillaries, and it restricts oil and gasoline from getting into the concrete. If your exterior concrete is very porous, we recommend you densify or harden that concrete first. Deep seal it was something like our CoverSeal DS160®. "DS" stands for deep seal. It's a penetrating densifier that goes deep into the concrete. It plugs the concrete, and then you can apply the CoverSeal Pen55® to seal the concrete surface. With the combination of these two products, you get the maximum gas and oil repellency and resistance. CoverShield U140® is a long lasting Gas And Oil Resistant Concrete Sealer. It’s a two-part, water-based polyurethane clear concrete sealer. It’s highly resistant to motor oil, engine oil, gas, brake fluid, chemical stains, and heavy traffic. It leaves an attractive look after application to a concrete surface. It’s a cost-effective solution for auto shops, warehouses, pole barns, and factory flooring.
