Our visit to Leuven in Belgium

#Ad - Let's discover Leuven, in the Flemish half of Belgium, in association with Visit Flanders & Visit Leuven. We'll start in the centre of town at the Grote Markt, and the first thing you'll discover is the beautiful Stadhuis, or town hall, of Leuven. Filled with bars and cafes, it's a great place to stop, relax, and watch the world go by. With Belgium beer culture firmly on our mind, we round the corner to Oude Markt, what's described as Europe's longest bar. A cobbled pedestrian street lined with bars. A stroll through Leuven's restaurant-lined lanes proves this city can keep you fed and watered. Our next destination is the University Library of KU Leuven. A 1920's university library in all it's glory. Next of the must see's in Leuven is M Leuven, the city museum and art gallery. Stepping outside, we look at the remains of the old medieval city walls of Leuven in Saint Donatus park, before heading on to the Great Beguinage of Leuven, the village within a city. The 3-hectare site of 18th-century buildings and quiet cobble lanes provides an oasis within the city centre. Our journey now takes us to discover Park Abbey, home to the Norbertine monks who have lived here since 1129. We also take a look at the peaceful grounds of Park Abbey and its lakes on an autumnal day. Heading back to the heart of Leuven, we take a quick look at Leuven's Memorial of Peace in front of the train station and the bars and cafes that fill the area. Back in the heart of Leuven, we take a look at St Peter's Church, explain its missing towers and take a look inside at the exquisite artworks and chapels that line this place of worship.
